Elon Musk continues to be late-night TV's favorite target not named Donald Trump thanks to the Tesla CEO's invovlement in government affairs. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is no exception, branding Musk a "sad, lonely boy" doing real damage to the government.
Musk initially landed on late-night TV's radar when he purchased Twitter, rebranded it as X, and made several head-scratching changes. But hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel viewed it as mostly harmless until Musk began campaigning for Trump.
Things went to a new level when Musk and Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency. Now, Musk has made sweeping changes to the federal government in moves Colbert describes as "blowing up our government."
Colbert seemed particularly irked by Musk's support team helping the billionaire overhaul multiple agencies and departments in the government. The comedian called Musk's staff of engineers between the ages of 19-24 a "crack team of recent children." The Late Show host also pushed back on Musk's reported plan to use artificial intelligence to determine budget cuts.
The monologue continued with Colbert questioning how Musk is allowed to access such sensitive data and make sweeping decisions. As the comedian pointed out, DOGE isn't a real thing and Musk isn't an elected official -- he's just "a guy who gave Trump $288 million."
Colbert mocked the Trump administration's attempt to legitimize Musk by naming him a "special government employee." The Late Show host imagined a plastic badge from Hasbro as Musk's proof.
Unfortunately for Colbert, it doesn't look like there's any stopping Musk or his team. The comedian acknowledged that some Republicans even questioned the legality of Musk's efforts. However, there are no plans to intervene. It led Colbert to conclude that following the Constitution has become optional at this point.
What we do know is that Colbert and his fellow late-night TV hosts won't stop going after Elon Musk. The billionaire hasn't been afraid to punch back, so we could be in for another public feud between Team Trump and Team Late-Night.
