Timothée Chalamet may be known for Dune and its successful follow-up, but the Oscar nominee also has some sequel work on Saturday Night Live worth noting. He could complete two different trilogies when he hosts tonight.
Chalamet already has his plate full when he returns to Studio 8H to host for the third time. He's also serving as musical guest as many believe he'll show off the musical talents he developed to portray Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.
The actor twice proved he's one of the best SNL hosts of his generation. For proof, look no further than the recurring sketches he helped popularize. Tonight, Chalamet could finish off the rare trilogy of sketches for a host with not one, but two different bits.
Will Timothée Chalamet serenade another horse on Saturday Night Live?
As Tracy Morgan so accurately put it in the documentary SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, anyone can tell a joke. The true measure is can you be funny. Timothée Chalamet's two SNL hosting gigs prove that he has legit comedy chops.
Just about every host (except maybe one) can do broad comedy on Saturday Night Live. It's a different animal when you're asked to carry an absurd, off-beat sketch like "Tiny Horse."
But that's just what Chalamet did in the 2020 sketch. The odd pretape even gave viewers an early taste of the actor's singing skills.
Chalamet was back on the horse in 2023 with "Giant Horse." The setting moved from a barn to a futuristic, intergalactical war. But Chalamet was still front and center, singing a longing tune about his horse.
Will 2025 see Chalamet complete the trilogy. His singing has only gotten better, so he probably owes it to the fans for one more horse song.
SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta could drop a third sketch
It's always something special when a host can develop their own recurring Saturday Night Live character. Timothée Chalamet has that with SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta, the legendary SoundCloud rapper.
The Fall Out Boy-inspired rapper first appeared alongside his partner Guaplord (Pete Davidson), The duo left Queen Latifah (Punkie Johnson) and Questlove speechless as they "yeeted" their way through a roundtable discussion on hip-hop.
Chalamet went solo for his next outing as the TikTok rapper. Mary J. Blige (Punkie Johnson), Rick Rubin (James Austin Johnson), and Dr. Cornel West (Kenan Thompson) had the honor of sitting in with SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta for another panel.
This time around, the rapper shared how streaming more of his life helped make him world famous. And once again, the rap pioneers around him struggle to keep up.
There's no reason SmokeChedda can't come back in 2025. It'd be interesting to hear what he's up to with TikTok's future in jeopardy. And completing the trilogy could give Pete Davidson a reason to return for another cameo.
Saturday Night Live with host Timothée Chalamet airs tonight, January 25, at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
