It's always exciting to watch Saturday Night Live's best duos reunite onscreen any chance they get. We love watching Amy Poehler and Tina Fey doing anything together (especially with Maya Rudolph!), Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig riffing in some hilarious bit, and Poehler cracking in-jokes with her pal and Weekend Update partner Seth Meyers. But that's just the tip of the iceberg of amazing SNL duos.

Maybe you missed the exciting news, but we're about to be treated to a Saturday Night Live reunion that's both a long time coming and one we didn't see coming. Two of the most iconic SNL stars, who starred in a film based on one of their most popular sketches, are joining forces once again after over a decade in an upcoming Netflix original comedy series. Who else is already sold?!

Molly Shannon reuniting with Will Ferrell in new series

Superstar stars Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon are set to officially reunite in Netflix's upcoming and currently untitled golf comedy series! Ferrell will headline the series as the fictional professional gold legend Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, and Shannon will portray his "foul-mouthed" ex-wife Stacy, according to both Netflix's press release and Deadline's official report.

Ferrell and Shannon appeared together on Saturday Night Live from 1995 until Shannon's departure in 2001. They also starred in the 199 cult favorite comedy movie Superstar, in which Shannon played her popular recurring SNL character Mary Katherine Gallagher. The dynamic duo both appeared in the comedy miniseries The Spoils Before Dying on IFC in 2015.

If Netflix's reunion of Tina Fey and Will Forte in the hit comedy series The Four Seasons is anything to go by, then Ferrell and Shannon's magnetic comedy chemistry will be a winning formula for the golf comedy. They also have the added bonus of having a built-in fandom who knows they can depend on the duo's comedic timing as well as the potential for promotion with an appearance on SNL.

The series marks Ferrell's first foray into scripted television comedy as the leading star. Even though the actor has guest starred in and produced (Netflix's Dead to Me and No Good Deed) his fair share of comedy series on the small screen, he's had yet to appear as a series regular in a show. Netflix's golf comedy was first announced back in May 2024 and this is the first major update since then.

Since being announced, the comedy series has undergone some behind the scenes changes. Ferrell and his producing partners Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor were originally working on the series with Ramy Youssef, who was also set to star, alongside Josh Rabinowitz and Andy Campagna. However, the trio left the series over creative differences and Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest joined as executive producers. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodriguez are also executive producers.

Hopefully, production will begin soon for a hopeful release on Netflix sometime in 2026. We can't wait to see Ferrell and Shannon back on our screens together again! Keep checking Last Night On for more news and updates about Saturday Night Live and its stars.
