Elon Musk and his Tesla company continue to be political talking points the further we get into President Donald Trump's second term. Late Night with Seth Meyers took "A Closer Look" at how that hasn't exactly been a good thing for the billionaire and his cars.
Musk transformed himself from a frequent late-night TV guest to a constant late-night TV punchline. Purchasing Twitter and aligning himself with Donald Trump made Musk a target for the likes of Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers.
Meyers took another turn bashing Musk on Thursday night. "A Closer Look" examined how Tesla stocks continue to drop as anti-Musk protests break out all around the country.
The Late Night host acknowledged that Musk initially benefited from becoming a star in the MAGAverse. The billionaire's net worth soared, as did the value of his companies like Tesla and SpaceX.
But as Musk began implementing mass layoffs in federal agencies, the tide began to turn. It led Meyers to ask the question "is it possible for a genius to also be super dumb?"
The comedian answered his own question by showcasing how Tesla has suffered in recent weeks. On top of that, thousands of Americans have begun publicly protesting Musk and his invovlement in the federal government.
Seth Meyers is happy to see Elon Musk fall on his face
Meyers doesn't have any sympathy for Musk, however. "A Closer Look" managed to kick Musk while he was down, joking that the Tesla CEO has gone from the energy of a motivational speaker to that of the Jets coach in a post-game press conference.
According to Meyers, it points to a key difference between Musk and Trump: Only one can pretend that everything is always going great ... and it's not Musk. The Late Night host could only imagine the unsubstantiated accomplishments Trump would be touting if he were in charge of Tesla.
And when Musk tried to borrow some of Trump's salesmanship, it failed. Meyers mocked Trump and Musk's attempt to advertise Tesla at the White House, calling out the president for calling the company "Tesler."
It was just more bad news for Elon Musk in what has been a challenging few weeks. He just shouldn't expect any sympathy from Late Night with Seth Meyers.
