President Trump calls Jimmy Fallon a 'moron' in unprompted attack on Tonight Show host

Earlier this week, CBS made the shocking decision to cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The news came just days after CBS called Colbert a “true legend of late night” in celebrating the show’s Emmy nomination… and just three days after Colbert did what he does best: react to major news. This major news just so happened to be connected to CBS and the $16 million settlement they paid out to President Donald Trump.

The timing of CBS's cancellation of The Late Show has sparked a wave of controversy, with many questioning whether the move was a political favor as Paramount Global prepares to be acquired by Skydance Media. Regardless of whether CBS truly canceled the show due to financial reasons or for other reasons, one thing is certain: President Trump is a big fan of the decision.

President Trump quickly took to Truth Social to celebrate Colbert’s firing, noting that he “absolutely love[d] that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” But it wasn’t just Colbert whom he took aim at. He hinted that Jimmy Kimmel Live host Jimmy Kimmel would be on the way out the door next, and he then proceeded to take some shots at The Tonight Show and its host.

Jimmy Fallon isn’t exactly known for his political monologues, but the longtime host of The Tonight Show has been a vocal critic of Trump over the years. Trump, in turn, loves whenever he can take a shot at Fallon, even when unprovoked, as was the case in this instance.

Trump did not mince words as he took the opportunity to throw a bit of shade at Fallon in celebrating the end of The Late Show. Trump called Fallon a ‘moron’ who has ruined The Tonight Show.

You can read Trump’s full quote below:

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! [Fox News host] Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

The message might have been inspired by celebrating Colbert’s firing, but it’s interesting that Fallon ended up caught in the crossfire and took the brunt of the attack. Then again, if there’s anything we’ve come to expect from Trump over the years, it’s that he doesn’t miss an opportunity to put down his adversaries with a few cheap shots here and there.

Thus far, Fallon has not responded to Trump’s comments, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he chose to address them in the next episode of The Tonight Show. It’s also possible, Fallon won’t even engage and focus his attention more on addressing CBS’s decision to cancel The Late Show.

We'll just have to wait to see how this ongoing saga continues to unfold it seems!
