Jon Stewart has his work cut out for him. The last few weeks of American politics have had enough drama to sustain multiple seasons of The Daily Show, and yet, the beloved host is nowhere to be found. Stewart will be missing the entire week, and in his place will be comedian Michael Kosta.

What gives? Well, unfortunately, Stewart came down with COVID. Comedy Central issued a statement on Monday confirming the comedian's condition. "Jon Stewart recently tested positive for COVID-19, therefore he will not be hosting this week," the statement read.

Thankfully, fans won't have to wait too long to get their Jon Stewart fix. In the same announcement, Comedy Central confirmed that Stewart will be back behind the Daily Show desk on Monday, August 12th. Not a bad turnaround. It'll be entertaining to see the comedian scramble to catch up with all the major political events that have transpired in his absence.

Stewart's impending return is also comforting, given that the comedian made his triumphant return to the Daily Show earlier this year. He proved adept as ever at skewering politicians, and point out the seemingly obvious discrepancy between political policy and common sense.

The chaos of the last decade is partially when Stewart wanted to return to The Daily Show in the first place. "I very much wanted to have some kind of place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season," he told CBS News.

He also took the opportunity to poke fun at himself, in typical Stewart fashion. "Just about everything that I wanted to happen over the 16 years that I was at The Daily Show did not happen," he quipped. He also likened himself to the presidential candidates (at the time), Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

He claimed to be the perfect person to cover the election because he "truly understands two aging men past their prime." We wish Stewart a speedy recovery!
