Stephen Colbert, like every other late night host, had thoughts on the recent Vice Presidential debate. He made some light jokes to make at the expense of both participants, JD Vance and Tim Walz, but he saved most of his vitriol for the former.

Colbert was not surprised, but rather disappointed with the fact that Vance tried to excuse several of the Donald Trump actions that the comedian has found reprehensible. In particular, the comment JD Vance made about the January 6 uprising.

Colbert felt Vance failed to make a compelling argument

The Late Show did not hold back in his critique. "That kind of junior high debate team sophistry is exactly the worst kind of behavior intelligent people use to justify evil," he asserted. He then went on to highlight what he felt was the weak reasoning by likening Trump to Godzilla. Yes, the monster:

"You know when you think about it, it could be argued that Godzilla really spearheaded Tokyo's urban renewal."

It didn't help that Colbert didn't find Vance particularly memorable while he was speaking. He was let down by the stage presence of both Vance and Walz, in fact, which is a sentiment echoed by his late night peer, Jimmy Kimmel.

Colbert described both candidates as "boring"

"The VP candidates were both different flavors of dull," Colbert opined. "JD Vance looked like a business lemur on beta blockers. "And Tim Walz was, you know, the ol’ likable coach but appeared to be way over-caffeinated."

Colbert also noted that Vance failed when confronted about the 2020 election. When pressed by Walz on whether Trump lost said election, Vance stated that he was focused on the "future" and failed to provide an answer. Hence the aforementioned uprising. "Jan. 6 was not Facebook ads," the host quipped. "But if it were, it would be, '10 weird tricks to overthrow the will of the people'!"
