Stephen Colbert is thrilled that Joe Biden took himself out of the presidential election. He's also thrilled that Kamala Harris is taking over as the Democratic nominee.

The Late Night host has been one of the most politically outspoken of his peers, and he continued to earn said reputation during this week's batch of shows. That being said, Colbert did not take himself too seriously. When it came to the topic of who Harris should choose as her Vice President, Colbert had a hilarious idea.

Colbert claims that Glen Powell should be the new VP

His suggestion for a running mate? Newly-minted movie star Glen Powell. Yes, the guy who stole the show in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), and is currently starring in the blockbuster sequel Twisters. As far as Colbert is concerned, Powell will steal the hearts of voters the same he'e stolen the hearts of moviegoers nationwide:

"I guarantee he will attract suburban women, and I already have his slogan: 'Yes, We Glen.' Four more abs! Four more abs!"

Kamala Harris' nomination has drawn the support of numerous celebrities, so the notion of her catering to voter fanbases by calling on a burgeoning superstar is pretty hilarious. Colbert also suggested that Harris utilize her celeb connections to bolster her campaign the way that Donald Trump has attempted to do.

Colbert joked about Harris' popularity with celebrities

"Maybe she should take something else," the Late Show host posited. "Maybe she should start selling her own celebrity Bible. But instead of Lee Greenwood, it’s Beyoncé — 'The Beyble.'" In contrast to all of the drama that's dominated politics over the last decade, Colbert also drew attention to the fact that Harris has endowed him with a sense of comfort. One he isn't really used to:

"Since Sunday afternoon, I haven’t been that worried, and that is deeply troubling. I personally blame our next president, Kamala Harris."

Hopefully the lack of worrying becomes a trend, and not the calm before more political storms.
