Saturday Night Live won't air a new episode tonight, February 10. However, SNL season 49 won't be gone for too long.
SNL aired back-to-back new episodes over the previous two weeks. The shows were a little uneven at best, with Ayo Edebirir being the standout host of the two. Saturday Night Live also kept the season of cameos rolling with a surprise appearance by Nikki Haley, but it wasn't exactly the splash the show typically wants to make.
So maybe it's a good thing that there won't be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight. Instead, NBC will reair the December 16, 2023 episode hosted by Kate McKinnon. Billie Eilish was the musical guest that night.
There's also a vintage episode scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET. Fans can tune in to see the season 48 episode hosted by Travis Kelce in honor of Sunday night's Super Bowl.
When does Saturday Night Live return with new episodes?
Saturday Night Live rarely airs more than two or three episodes in a row once the season gets rolling. So it's no surprise we've reached another SNL hiatus for season 49.
Saturday Night Live will return with a brand-new episode on February 24, 2024. Comedian Shane Gillis will (finally) make his SNL debut as host. He'll be joined by 21 Savage as the musical guest.
As SNL followers are well aware, Gillis originally signed on to be a featured cast member in September 2019. It's the same year Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman joined Saturday Night Live.
But when podcast clips surfaced featuring Gillis using ethnic and gay slurs, he immediately came under fire. In a matter of days, Lorne Michaels' representatives announced SNL fired Gillis before the season even began.
It will be interesting to see how SNL handles the elephant in the room when Gillis returns. The controversy by no means canceled his career as he's gone on to be a popular comedian and podcaster without SNL.
