Scarlett Johansson has been one of the most famous actresses on the planet for two decades. She has multiple Oscar nominations, and was a core piece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for ten years. That being said, watching Saturday Night Live still stresses her out. Why? Because she knows that she will eventually get name-dropped.

Johansson is married to Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost, and every season Jost and Michael Che engage in a joke swap. The premise of the bit is that Jost and Che force the other to deliver a joke that the other has written, without knowing what the joke will be. Without fail, Jost will be forced to deliver a joke at his own wife's expense.

Scarlett Johansson claims she blocks the jokes out of her memory

The actress opened up about this tradition during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Despite emanating coolness onscreen, she admits that she gets "terrified" of what will be said about her during the joke swap:

"We need to go into witness protection after that night. Like, I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be targeted. It’s so bad."

The actress recognizes that it's all in good fun

Johansson knows that it's all in good fun, but it's the anticipation of being mentioned that makes it difficult for her to get through it. She went as far as to claim that she blacks out whenever the annual SNL episode airs, as a means of trying to get through it. "I black out for that period of the night," she quipped. "I actually don’t remember it."

Despite the stress it causes, the Black Widow star is able to manage because, well, it only happens once a year. She did elicit laughter from the audience by pointing out that the once a year event will usually happen around Christmas, aka the happiest time of the year. The irony is, admittedly, pretty funny.

"They do it at Christmas, too," she explained to Kelly Clarkson. "It’s like a little gift to each other."
