Saturday Night Live adds 3 new members to upcoming season 50 cast

The show had some notable departures in recent weeks.

Saturday Night Live has a lot going on right now. The show is gearing up for its landmark 50th season, while a film about its creation, Saturday Night, continues to generate positive buzz. There's also been lots of buzz surrounding the departure of three cast members during the offseason.

Punkie Johnson, Molly Kearney and Chloe Troast have decided not to return for season 50. It was sad to see them go, but the bright side is that SNL has now added three brand new cast members to fill their spot. Deadline confirmed that Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline will be joining the esteemed SNL cast as recurring players.

Generally speaking, a comedian will serve as a recurring player on SNL for about two years before they get promoted to official cast member. This will be the cast with Padilla, Wakim and Wickline. Those who enjoy the current SNL cast needn't worry about too many unfamiliar faces, though.

The outlet confirmed that three recurring players will be getting promoted to main cast. These three include Marcello Hernandez, Devon Walker and Michael Longfellow. They arrived around the same time as Molly Kearney, but have to decided to stay the course for the monumental 50th season.

It was a whirlwind of announcements all at one time. Not only did Deadline reveal who was joining and who was getting promoted to SNL cast member, but the outlet also reported on the latest departure fom the cast. The aforementioned Chloe Troast, revealed that she was not given the chance to prove herself during another season.

“Unfortunately I was not asked back to SNL this season," the comedian wrote. "I wish I was going back to be with all the amazing friends I made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards." Lots of changes are afoot, and frankly, we're excited to see how they change SNL moving forward.
