Jimmy Kimmel dropped his comedy persona to give fans an update on his son's health condition over Memorial Day weekend. Once he resumed Jimmy Kimmel Live, however, he was back to his old tricks aka insulting President Donald Trump.

The talk show host detailed the ending of the President's New York trial, and the surprise inclusion of Robert De Niro outside of the courthouse. Given De Niro's hatred of Trump, it's easy to infer that the host was on the actor's side.

Robert De Niro publicly criticized Trump at his trial

"Yesterday things got interesting because Robert De Niro showed up," Kimmel told the audience. "Robert De Niro had a little press conference outside the courthouse. At which, he lambasted Trump, quite spectacularly. And that did not sit well with our former President. He then cut to footage of the President insulting De Niro. "[He's] a broken down fool," the President opined. "He got a big dose of MAGA.'"

"He really got a dose of MAGA," Kimmel said mockingly. The talk show host then cuts to footage of people crying and criticizing Robert De Niro for his comments. Kimmel notes that the people outside the courthouse appear more sad than Trump's own wife, Melania. "Melania has not shown up for any of this trial. It's too hard for her to keep a straight face."

Kimmel said De Niro's comments were "spectacular"

He did, however, note the presence of Donald Trump, Jr., who decided to present a rebuttal to De Niro's statement. The younger Trump makes a crack about De Niro having not made a good film in years, and campaigning against the President as a means of drumming up attention for himself.

Kimmel couldn't help but laugh at this line of thinking. "First of all, Robert De Niro was nominated for an Oscar two months ago." The host is better informed on this particular matter than most, since he was the literal host of the Academy Awards. De Niro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the film Killers of the Flower Moon, which earned a total of ten Oscars.

"Secondly," Kimmel explained. "Your father also had one actor at the trial, and that actor was Jon Piscopo. Even Joe Piscopo would tell you, you lost that one." We'd have to agree with Kimmel's take on this one.
