Is there a late night host who enjoys making fun of Donald Trump more than Jimmy Kimmel? We don't think so. The former president has become a regular target for the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, which means there's no shortage of material for Kimmel to play around with. This was particularly evident in the monologue that opened up the May 1 episode.

Kimmel opened the show by taking note of a study. The study in question claims that Americans are sleeping more than ever in 2024, which led the host to make a funny (albeit truthful) comment about the fact that a good chunk of the people tuning into his show will fall asleep to it. It's a charming bit, but the whole thing serves as a launchpad for (you guessed it) more Trump jokes.

Kimmel wants the Trump trial to be televised

"Speaking of sleepy, Donald Trump," Kimmel said to a giggling audience. "I guess Teddy Dozevelt is tired from all the winning, because he nodded off in court again today. CNN reported that 'Trump is slumped back in his chair with his eyes closed'." The outlet's headline came with an onscreen graphic, which only furthered the absurdity of the whole situation.

Kimmel's first reaction was frustration that the trial is not being televised. "Why is this not on TV, by the way," he asked the crowd. "I want to see the drool!" The former host of The Man Show did find, however, a comedic silver lining in Trump's trial situation.

Kimmel also took shots at Trump's son Eric

"The good news for Trump is that one of his family members finally showed up at court today," he noted. "The bad news is it was Eric." The ding against the middle son in the Trump family drew one of the biggest laughs of the entire monologue. "Eric attended his dad's pornstar hush money trial... in the Trump family it's as close as you get to playing catch in the yard."

Jimmy Kimmel really dug into the elder Trump's character, however, when he claimed that he wouldn't be attending if it was his son, Eric, who was on trial instead. "Best case scenario," he explained. "He pulls up in a limo, screams 'Witch hunt' out the window, and then drives back home for a taco bowl."

The Trump trial is far from over, and judging by the amount of time Kimmel spent discussing it, viewers are in for a long, punchline-filled summer.
