An assassination attempt is no laughing matter, and Jimmy Kimmel upheld this on Monday night. He did not make any jokes about the fact that President Donald Trump was targeted for the second time in several months. He did, however, take umbridge with Trump's immediate response to the incident.

Donald Trump blamed the assassination attempt on his political opponent, Kamala Harris. He took to the Fox News Digital platform to cite Harris' rhetoric as the main reason he's being shot at. " I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country," he said. "Both from the inside and out."

Kimmel highlighted Donald Trump's hypocrisy

It was this line of reasoning that led Jimmy Kimmel to break his silence during the Monday night episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! He couldn't wrap his head around the fact that Trump is laying the blame for what happened at the feet of Harris and Joe Biden.

The host noted that Trump is famed for using inflammatory language and rhetoric, and even did so on social media hours before the assassination attempt:

"This is a man who, literally hours before this happened, posted on Truth Social the words, 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!' This is a crazy person."

Kimmel also dug into Donald Trump's past, and reminded viewers of the callous way he joked about the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband back in 2022. "You are nothing if not a calming influence," the host sarcastically noted.

He also took the time out to highlight some of the other wild statements that Trump has made in the last few months, with the most notable being the claim that Haitian immigrants are eating cats in the city of Springfield, Ohio.

Kimmel's decision to avoid directly joking about Trump's safety being threatened seemed very much intentional, but given how much the host likes to go after the former President for his comments, he found a way to thread the needle and keep the political bashing going.
