Jimmy Fallon surprises Tonight Show fans by roasting Joe Biden (twice)

Jimmy Fallon is the least political of the big 4 late night hosts. This is by design. The comedian has said that he prefers to eschew political commentary when he can, even if it means peers like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert benefit from it in the ratings.

Fallon has incorporated more political humor into his show over the last few years, but what fans did not expect was the host to take shots at President Joe Biden on consecutive nights. Biden was one of many politicians who attended the Democratic National Convention (he's a Democratic President, where else would he be), and Fallon decided had material for him during both of his appearances.

Jimmy Fallon mocked Biden on consecutive nights

On Monday, Fallon decided to poke fun at Joe Biden's appearance. Throwaway joke, nothing much to it. It was the following night, however, in which the Tonight Show host really went after the President.

On Tuesday, Fallon make a crack about Joe Biden's age, with regards to the start time of the DNC. "Joe Biden was supposed to deliver the primetime speech, but he didn’t take the stage until 11:30," the host told his audience. "In an odd twist, Biden was awake at midnight while the rest of the country was asleep."

A pretty standard joke. Jimmy Fallon decided to turn the heat up, though, when he noted that Kamala Harris has become the Democratic nominee for President over Biden:

"Yeah, all night Democrats were chanting, 'We love you, Joe!' while Biden must have been thinking, 'um, apparently not as much as others.'"

Fallon made multiple jokes about Joe Biden's age

The Tonight Show host with some edgier material! Fallon had more. He proceeded to joke about all the medication Biden likely has to take at his advanced age. "Being at the convention after dropping out of the race had to be a bitter pill to swallow," he noted. "Although, at 81, it blends in with all the other pills."

Are we seeing a different side of Fallon, or did the comedian merely run into a string of Biden jokes he thought hit? I guess we'll find out for sure this coming election.
