Jimmy Fallon has serious doubts about Biden, but still targets Trump
Jimmy Fallon's name is not synonymous with politics. If anything, it's the opposite. Fallon was widely criticized for avoiding political commentary during the 2016 election, and lost ratings to talk show hosts who were quick to lambast Donald Trump.
Fallon remains the most politically neutral of the talk show hosts, but the recent presidential debate proved to be such a lighting rod speculation and, well, debate, that The Tonight Show host decided to weigh in. He took shots at President Joe Biden, but he also evened the score by targeting Donald Trump as well.
Jimmy Fallon likened Biden to a malfunctioning firework
When it came to Joe Biden's already infamous performance at the presidential debate, Fallon likened it to a disastrous fireworks display. One that "doesn’t ignite, or the one where the bottle tips over and blows up your house," he quipped.
Jimmy Fallon also addressed the tricky situation that the Democratic Party has been put in, regarding whether or not to replace Biden. Once again, the talk show host resorted to silly imagery to make his point. He posited that the Democrats' plans to remove Biden from office would be to:
"Tie a bunch of balloons to the White House and hope he floats away like that old guy from 'Up.'"
The host also reminded fans about Trump's felon status
Naturally, Donald Trump got his. Kimmel noted that Biden may potentially be unfit to hold office, but asserted that Trump's status as a felon was not something to overlook. “The media has spent almost two weeks calling on a candidate to drop out of the race," he explained. "And somehow it’s not the convicted felon... It’s not, it’s the other guy."
Fallon isn't the only late night host to voice concern over the state of the presidential race. Stephen Colbert told The Late Show audience that he believes Biden should step down, while Jon Stewart told Daily Show viewers that Biden and Trump should resort to taking performance enhancing drugs to see if it made them any sharper.
This is going to be a fruitful election cycle for late night, that's for sure.
