Jimmy Fallon is a polarizing figure. Ironically, in trying to be as broadly appealing as possible, the former SNL star has drawn criticism for not being sincere with his guests. Regardless of how one feels about Fallon, though, one cannot deny that he's put the work in.

The comedian has been hosting The Tonight Show since 2014, and in a decade's time, he's managed to spearhead a staggering 2,000 episodes. He reached this colossal milestone on July 18, and he did it in style.

Jimmy Fallon celebrated with a late night cake

Fallon's magical 2,000th show revolved around the milestone itself. How could it not? The host spent time penning thank you letters to people in a humorous segment, and he also presented with a cake that had the Manhattan skyline on it.

The host even poked fun at his own perceived criticisms during an interview with PEOPLE, joking that he needs to focus on becoming a better host since he's been doing it for so long. "2000 shows," he said. "We’ve conquered quantity, next mountaintop: quality."

Questlove, the drummer for Fallon's in-house band, The Roots, also spoke on the late night marker. "Being part of The Roots and bringing our music to late-night TV has been an absolute joy," he stated. "We're deeply honored to have contributed to the show’s enduring legacy."

Fallon will host The Tonight Show through 2028

Fallon's self-effacing appreciation extended to the 2,000th episode itself. He extended a thanks to the fans at home, and praised them for their loyalty, even if it may not be loyalty to The Tonight Show:

"I just want to give a big thank you to everyone for watching, or at least falling asleep during Chicago PD and keeping your TV turned on."

Jimmy Fallon isn't going anywhere, either. In June, the talk show host renewed his contract with the Tonight Show to ensure that he will stay on through 2028. "It’s been a privilege to witness Jimmy at the helm of the The Tonight Show," said NBCUniversal Chairman Mark Lazarus. "And we’re thrilled to see what innovations he and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network."
