Andy Cohen details his awkward WWHL moment with Oprah Winfrey
Andy Cohen is a pro. He's spent two decades hosting Watch What Happens Live, and is therefore well equipt to deal with, well, whatever happens live. That being said, this wasn't always the case.
Cohen has had awkward TV moments in the past, and he recounted his most notable one during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. The person he had the awkward encounter with? None other than Oprah Winfrey.
Andy Cohen regrets asking Oprah a personal question
Oprah was a guest on Watch What Happens Live back in 2013, and Cohen got right into it by asking his guest whether she had ever "taken a dip in the lady pond." Oprah didn't miss a beat, and told the host no.
It's an uncomfortable watch, given the personal nature of the question, and Cohen stated that it was one of the few things he would take back if he could:
"That's probably one of my few regrets. It's gone brilliantly and I turn around and ask her if she's every had sex with a woman. I mean, couldn't I leave it alone?"
Despite the awkward encounter, Andy Cohen had nothing but praise for his guest. "This was a huge moment for me and for the show," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I'm such a fan of Oprah." Despite voicing regret, Cohen actually considers the Oprah episode to be his favorite.
Cohen maintains that its still his favorite episode
"I was so grateful that Oprah did the show and I still am," he admitted. "That remains, I think, my favorite episode." The Bravo mogul also gave some behind the scenes insight into the interview, and revealed that Oprah may not have been fully aware of what he was asking.
"Gayle King told me later that week that Oprah didn't know what I meant by 'the lady pond,'" Cohen recalled. "I thought I explained it pretty well there..."
Contradictory as it may be, there's something hilarious about Andy Cohen's favorite episode of Watch What Happens Live being one in which he regrets something he said.
