10 actors we want to see host Saturday Night Live in season 50
In nearly a month Saturday Night Live (SNL) will be reaching 50 seasons. It's hard to believe that the time slot, filled with comedic performances by some of the best and most unforgettable performers and comedians, began way back in 1975.
There are so many actors and actresses who began their careers through SNL including Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, Chevy Chase, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, and Robert Downey Jr. Who knows which celebrities will grace our television screens and movie theaters next.
As we approach the new season, we wanted to compile a list of actors who we'd love to see host SNL. Some may have appeared before, whereas others have never stepped foot upon the legendary stage.
Let's begin!
1. Matt Smith
From Doctor Who to House of the Dragon and The Crown, Matt Smith might seem initially like an odd choice for this list. But he has proven a multitude of times that he can often flip the switch from serious to silly.
After all it was his dancing scene in the box office flop Morbius that made waves across the internet, becoming a popular GIF and meme no one could escape. Delightfully funny and always entertaining to watch, what else can we say to convince you?
In recent years Smith has dominated television and frankly it's time that he makes his SNL debut. We'd love to see him conquer the SNL stage and show off more of his funny side.
2. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman
Speaking of striking while the iron is hot, we have Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman who must host SNL together. Reynolds has hosted in the past but now that he is the man of the hour or even, arguable, year with his fellow costar and perhaps movie BFF, he must make an epic return!
Reynolds and Jackman are far from newbies when it comes to film and comedy, but together they become an unstoppable duo in the likes of their Marvel characters Deadpool and Wolverine. The most recent addition to the Deadpool franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine, is evidence enough that the duo needs to come to the SNL stage and make it a night worth remembering.
Who knows what jokes they might have withheld from a 21st Century (yes, Disney) film, that may now be fair game for the comedy show.
3. Taylor Tomlinson
Ok so we may have cheated a bit here as her acting credits are minor but how hasn't Taylor Tomlinson hosted SNL yet? She's perhaps the funniest female comedian out there with three Netflix stand-up specials.
Not to mention she is hosting After Midnight on CBS! Her comedic tales hit home for her audience on multiple occasions, and we can only hope to see some of her skills play out in well-written and memorable SNL skits.
Outside of her comedy specials, we are crossing our fingers for Tomlinson to have more opportunities to act in the near future. She has the range. But for now, can someone please get this woman on SNL ASAP?!
4. Gabriel Iglesias AKA: Fluffy
Speaking of funny, we are also equally confused about how Gabriel Iglesias AKA: FLUFFY has not hosted SNL yet. Seriously what are you waiting for?
It's one thing to have celebrities host who are genuinely funny people but it's another to miss out on inviting actual comedians who have proven their talents and skills time and time again. Where do we begin with this guy's impressive resume of reasons why he needs to host?
He's funny first of all, secondly, he's a voice acting icon having provided voices for a plethora of characters from the likes of Coco, Ferdinand, and Monsters at Work. Thirdly his acting skills outside of the sound booth are equally impressive from his one-episode role in Narcos to his Mr. Iglesias TV show and The Santa Clauses.
The guy is constantly working, which we always appreciate and acknowledge, but we are hoping to see him host SNL very soon.
5. Ella Purnell
Ella Purnell has been shining brightly on the television screen, from her compelling roles in Yellowjackets and Fallout to her unmistakable voice-acting work in Star Trek: Prodigy and Invincible. She wins us over continually with her warm personality and overall positive attitude which makes us curious as to how she would perform as a SNL host.
Her unique style would bring fresh air into the comedy special series and let's face it, she'll probably prove she's just as funny as the best comedians in the business. According to her IMDb page she has a full plate ahead of her, but we still hope she'll be able to make time to host SNL one day soon.
6. Jack Quaid and Karl Urban
Another duo coming in! Straight off the Amazon Prime hit series The Boys is Jack Quaid and Karl Urban!
The Boys has proven to be an asinine, outrageous and often times dark comedy when it's not being a juxtaposition of how our world views superheroes. The two actors play characters who are often polar opposites of each other, but somehow still manage to work well when it comes to their common goal of defeating Homelander.
Like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, we'd love to see what comedic shenanigans these two can get into on the stage. We're pretty positive we won't be disappointed.
7. John Bradley
John Bradley really became a household name thanks to his role as Samwell Tarly in HBO's Game of Thrones. Most recently he has appeared in the popular Netflix show 3 Body Problem.
Like Ella Purnell, we'd like to see Bradley give his comedic talents a go and see what kind of a show he can perform. He may be the most obscure candidate on our list but as Bradley works his way in both movies and television, we'd like to see him, if possible, take on more of a comedy role.
We believe he will surprise and stun many viewers if given the opportunity.
8. Margot Robbie
Hi Barbie! Last but not least is Margot Robbie, coming off the heels of the wacky, very pink, and continually talked about film, Barbie. Like Ryan Reynolds, Robbie has hosted before but that doesn't mean she can't take the mic once more and put on a memorable show.
Robbie, like many on our list, has proven she can excel in a plethora of roles, with comedy being one of her most impressive to date. As long as her schedule has room, we'd love to see her return to the stage, perhaps perform a skit or two with Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, and see what new groundbreaking material unfolds!
With Robbie on stage, laughter is almost guaranteed!
