Pete Davidson's SNL return upends rumor that he's feuding with Colin Jost

The comedians reportedly had issues behind the scenes.

Pete Davidson made an unexpected return to Saturday Night Live on November 2. The comedian and former cast member dropped by to cameo in a sketch by fellow alum and close friend, John Mulaney. It was fun to see these two share the SNL stage once more, but it was surprising given the rumors that had swirled regarding Davidson's exit from the show.

Davidson always had a tenuous relationship with SNL. He was well liked by SNL boss Lorne Michaels, and friendly with several of his peers (Mulaney, most notably), but his public persona outweighed his screen time and his presence on the show. It was an odd balance, and one that contributed to his exit in 2022.

The comedians allegedly had a falling out

A year later, however, another theory surfaced as to why Davidson left the show. An anonymous source told The U.S. Sun that the comedian was butting heads with head writer and Weekend Update host Colin Jost. The source alleged the two men had a strong dislike for one another behind closed doors:

"Pete and Colin's falling out went all the way to the top and Lorne has been made aware of the situation. It's not looking likely that the comedian will be invited back."

Davidson has already hosted SNL since leaving

The theory caught fire online, with many speculating as to what occurred between the two SNL vets. There's a couple things wrong with this theory, however. For one, Davidson hosted SNL after he left the show in 2023, so he was already invited back when this "feud" was supposed to be in play.

Furthermore, there's no specific cause or reason given as to why there was a falling out between Pete Davidson and Colin Jost. The source provides no details or information on either comedian's feelings, making their account seem especially dubious.

Until a more reputable source comes out and confirms this theory, it's safe to assume that Davidson and Jost are fine, and that it's nice to see Davidson, one of the last true SNL stars to date, return for a cameo in the landmark 50th season.
