Olivia Rodrigo in The Devil Wears Prada? SNL has a vision

Dan MacMedan-USA TODAY

Saturday Night Live finally returns with a brand-new episode this weekend, bringing in the multi-talented Olivia Rodrigo to both host and perform as the musical guest. A promo for the upcoming episode drops Rodrigo in the middle of The Devil Wears Prada to give fans an ideas of what to expect.

In a parody of Meryl Streep's famous scene from the original in which she educated Anne Hathaway's Andy about her sweater and more, the promo opens with Rodrigo arriving at Studio 8H, greeted warmly by cast members Andrew Dismukes and Jane Wickline. But the buzz at Saturday Night Live isn't for the Grammy winner.

James Austin Johnson arrives perfectly dressed as Streep's Miranda, proving that SNL's best impressionist has a seemingly limitless number of personas he can pull off. Johnson recreates one of the film’s most memorable monologues, swapping out cerulean sweaters for Rodrigo's use of "skits." It may seem like an innocent mistake, but the world of Saturday Night Live has long made it clear that the show performs sketches, not skits.

“These skits?” Johson replies. “I find it sort of comical that you think these ‘skits’ have nothing to do with you when in fact your entire career has been turned into sketches by the people in this very room.”

The SNL star then reminds Rodrigo that her breakout role on a High School Musical series has ties to a Zac Efron sketch from 2009. The connections go deeper as Johnson points out an entire sketch was dedicated to Rodrigo's hit song "drivers license" and the popstar later appeared in a sketch while serving as musical guest.

It's obvious how comfortable Rodrigo looks throughout the promo. While she plays it straight in the bit, the Grammy winner’s acting background shows in her timing and reactions. She more than holds her own opposite Johnson.

That ease is a good sign for the full episode this weekend. This marks Rodrigo’s first time hosting and her third as musical guest, meaning she already has a good sense of how things operate behind the scenes at Saturday Night Live. Being the host is a different experience, but at least she won't be going in completely cold.

Rodrigo will have plenty to promote, too. Her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, is set to drop June 12, adding another layer of anticipation to her return to Studio 8H. Fans can expect to get a live performance of her single "Drop Dead" plus a new track from the album.

The episode kicks off the final three episodes of season 51. Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
