Fans hoping for new episodes of Late Night with Seth Meyers this week may be disappointed to learn that Seth Meyers is taking the week off, with NBC airing reruns each night instead. But given what’s happening elsewhere in late night, the timing actually makes a lot of sense.
This week belongs to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as Stephen Colbert wraps up his final episodes before Thursday night’s series finale. The end of Colbert’s run has become the defining story in late-night television, and Meyers stepping aside for the week avoids pulling attention away from one of the genre’s biggest moments in years.
In fact, Meyers isn’t alone in making room for Colbert’s farewell. Both Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon already announced plans to air reruns on Thursday, May 21 rather than compete directly with Colbert’s final episode on CBS. Because Late Night is dark for the entire week, Meyers effectively accomplishes the same thing on an even larger scale.
That doesn’t necessarily make the break any less frustrating for fans, especially since Meyers has been on top of his game in 2026. His “A Closer Look” segments have consistently generated buzz online, especially when covering issues like the war in Iran, President Donald Trump's ballroom controversies, and more recently, President Trump's trip to China.
Still, if there was ever a week for the entire late-night community to collectively give the spotlight to one host, this would be it. In the meantime, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers rerun lineup this week pulls from episodes that originally aired earlier this spring
Monday’s episode reairs Meyers’ March 18 conversation with Ryan Gosling, along with a conversation with singer Jessie Ware. Tuesday’s repeat comes from March 25 and features comedian Chelsea Handler alongside actress Eiza González.
Wednesday’s episode goes back to March 26 with guests Amanda Peet and Vincent D'Onofrio.
The Thursday rerun originally aired May 6 and includes appearances from Maya Rudolph and Michael Gandolfini. Then on Friday, NBC replays the May 7 episode featuring Lisa Kudrow and Nicholas Braun.
Last week, Meyers also did his part to keep the buzz on Stephen Colbert. The Late Night host appeared on The Late Show with his fellow Strike Force Five co-hosts Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, and Jimmy Fallon. The group then recorded a special edition of the podcast to say their late-night farewell to Colbert.
Meyers is expected to return with new episodes next week. For now, though, late-night TV seems content to let the spotlight stay firmly on Colbert.
