It’s Sunday night, and you know what that means. There’s a new episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
The Sunday, Nov. 16 episode is the 30th hour of the new season. There’s been plenty to break down in the most recent weeks, and we know that there has been plenty happening in the most recent week for Oliver to discuss. There is one topic that is sure to come up!

As usual, the new episode will air on HBO tonight, Sunday, Nov. 16. Tune in at 11 p.m. ET/PT on the channel, which you can get via your cable company as a premium channel.
Do you like to stream instead? Is the late show just a little too late for you to stay up and watch? Don’t worry! You can stream the series on HBO Max the following day, with the episode dropping around 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Monday, Nov. 17.
It’s only a 40-minute episode or so, so you’ll want to keep that in mind when it comes to watching live. You may just be able to stay up! I know it plays a part in my thinking on a Sunday.
What to expect on Last Week Tonight on Sunday, Nov. 16?
We don’t get a synopsis of events ahead of the episode with this show, and that’s simply because it focuses on the relevant news from the week. Who knows what will happen in the days leading up to Sunday, meaning that everything may have to change.
However, there is sure to be one event on Oliver’s mind, and it’s all about the end of the government shutdown. He has focused on the government shutdown in the past, but on Monday, Nov. 10 there was an end in sight as eight Democrats decided to switch sides and work with the Republicans. This has been a talking point for many late night hosts, including Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers, so it makes sense that Oliver will want to focus on it as well.
Remember that Oliver doesn’t just look at events in the United States. He also takes a look at global events, and there are sure to be some from near and far to look into.
This is all supposed to be satirical as well as insightful. The idea is to have some fun with the news, although the work is researched heavily at the same time.
