Tony Hinchcliffe has become the most polarizing comedian in the world in the span of a couple days. His appearance at the Donald Trump campaign rally in Madison Square Garden was met with disgust from a large portion of the voting public.
Many castigated Hinchcliffe for making racist and insensitive remarks about African Americans, Puerto Ricans and Jewish people. Jon Stewart discussed this controversial showcase during the latest episode of The Daily Show, and he actually went kind of easy on Hinchcliffe.
Stewart admits that he finds Hinchcliffe 'very funny'
It turns out, Stewart is a fan. He thinks Hinchcliffe's insult comedy was totally out of place at a Trump campaign rally, but pointed out that Hinchcliffe has built a very successful career doing this very thing in other settings. Stewart showed clips of the comedian at a recent Comedy Central roast, and was very clearly laughing when the camera cut back to him.
"There’s something wrong with me," he admitted to the audience. "I find that guy very funny." The Daily Show host went on to note that Hinchcliffe's material suffered greatly from the context in which it was presented, but those who are familiar with Hinchcliffe's material should not have expected any other kind of comedy:
"Probably not the best decision by the campaign politically, but to be fair, the guy’s just really doing what he does."
Stewart mocked the rest of the Trump rally speakers
Jon Stewart then made an unexpected parallel between Hinchcliffe and Beyonce. The latter made a surprise appearance at a Kamala Harris rally in Houston, but she merely gave a speech and did not perform any of her music.
Stewart was baffled by this decision, and then stated that Hinchcliffe trotting out non-insulting jokes would have been like Beyonce not singing at a Harris rally. Stewart had plenty of digs lined up for the rest of the men who took the stage at the campaign rally (especially Tucker Carlson), but he stood his ground when it came to Hinchcliffe.
