Jon Stewart is giving out some tough love to the Democrats. The Daily Show host offered a three-word slogan for liberals looking to regroup in the wake of the 2024 election and bombshell reporting about President Joe Biden.
Stewart responded strongly to the new book Original Sin from CNN reporters Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson about President Biden's cognitive decline and efforts to keep him in the 2024 race. Stewart argued the journalists had a responsibility to share the information they learned in real time, rather than wait for a book deal.
So where do Democrats go from here after such a damning report? According to Stewart, it's time for the party to move past the status quo and reinvent itself.
“We need to overcome, I think, the stink,” Stewart said on his Weekly Show podcast. “By the way, if that is not a Democrat’s slogan in 2028, something has gone terribly wrong: ‘Overcome The Stink,’” the late-night TV host added.
As bad as the news about President Biden and the "cover up" sounded, Stewart actually sees a silver lining in the scandal. But it means Democrats taking their cue from Republicans and looking to completely change course.
“It has sown the seeds for a real ... and it’s an opportunity ... for an interesting reinvention of what this Democratic Party can be,” Stewart argued. The comedian continued, comparing it to the "extinction" event that was the Iraq War and how Donald Trump emerged as the new face of the Republican Party.
Stewart didn't have any real specific on who could come out as the new leader of the Democratic Party. But, he knows who it shouldn't be, and that's anyone with a strong connection to Joe Biden.
“I think anybody that has any of that stink on them is not going to be particularly successful,” Stewart said in regard to Democrats closely tied to Biden.
