Jimmy Kimmel is taking time off from Jimmy Kimmel Live! (and here's why)
It's election season, which means there is even more material for late night hosts to talk about than usual. Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers have been dedicating large portions of their show to the election, and the actions of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
Jimmy Kimmel is no exception. He will, however, be taking a small break. The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! has confirmed that he will not be releasing new episodes the week of October 21. He will take the entire week off, which means Monday through Thursday will feature reruns of episodes that ran earlier in the season.
Jimmy Kimmel will be taking October 21-24 off
The reasoning? Well, running a talk show and churning out four episodes a week can be taxing. It makes sense that Kimmel would want to take a break before gearing up and being sharp for the actual election week.
It will no doubt be an election loaded with opportunities to make jokes at Trump's expense. And anybody who has watched Jimmy Kimmel Live! knows that doing so is the host's favorite pastime. Kimmel's decision to take a week off at this point in the year is pretty standard, as evidenced by the fact that his peers have done the same thing.
Other hosts have done the same this month
Stephen Colbert took a week off from hosting The Late Show the week of October 7. Reruns of The Late Show were aired instead. Likewise for Taylor Tomlinson, who took the same exact week off and relied on old episodes of her show, After Midnight, to fill the void.
Fortunately, there will still be plenty of late night content to watch this coming week. Jon Stewart, who recently took a day off as well, will return to The Daily Show for an interview Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz. The pair will convene on Monday, October 21, which will mark only the second time Walz has appeared on a talk show.
