Jimmy Kimmel Live! gets ABC update that should please fans

Fans of Jimmy Kimmel Live! have reason to celebrate: ABC has officially confirmed that the late-night show is back this week with brand-new episodes. And the timing couldn't be better as Jimmy Kimmel has a lot of catching up to do.

After taking last week off, there was some uncertainty about whether host Jimmy Kimmel might extend his break, especially with Easter falling just yesterday. Instead, the network is wasting no time getting back into the swing of things, bringing Kimmel back behind the desk right when the news cycle is heating up.

And there’s certainly no shortage of material. With headlines dominated by President Donald Trump, Kimmel's monologues shouldn't have any trouble getting attention this week. There was Trump's expletive-filled social media post that promised to escalate the war in Iran, and then the president's commentary on the conflict during the traditional White House Egg Roll.

Kimmel found himself making headlines over the past couple of weeks for his jokes about newly appointed Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. The Trump administration even went so far as to put out a statement about Kimmel's jokes, so maybe the late-night host will take it upon himself to respond on Monday night.

Beyond the monologues, the show is lining up a strong slate of guests throughout the week. Monday night's episode starts off with lead guest Jason Segel. Expect him to talk all things Shrinking and his new feature Over Your Dead Body. Then, Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter joins the show. She's set to make her off-Broadway debut in a production of Heathers.

Tuesday night, look for Oscar Isaac to chat with Kimmel. The actor stars in season 2 of Netflix's Beef, coming on April 16. After that, Scott Speedman stops by to talk about his series RJ Decker. Mitski will also perform.

Wednesday night's top guest will be Jean Smart, on hand to talk Hacks. Following her will be Antony Starr to promote the final season of The Boys.

Finally, Kimmel's week wraps up on Thursday night. Isaac's co-star Carey Mulligan will be there to continue the push for Beef season 2. Maude Apatow will follow to talk up Euphoria and perhaps her directorial debut, Poetic License. Gorillaz featuring Sparks are scheduled to perform, too.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Content is also available to stream on Hulu.
