Jimmy Kimmel gives a graphic reason why Trump doesn't need a ballroom

Late-night TV had plenty to work with Tuesday as Jimmy Kimmel dug into Donald Trump’s ever-expanding White House ballroom proposal. The ABC host zeroed in on the project, specifically the price tag and funding plan that seems to keep changing by the week.

During his monologue, Kimmel tried to get a better understanding of a constantly shifting price tag and funding plan for the project. What was once pitched as a $200 million ballroom funded entirely by private donors has since doubled to $400 million. Now, thanks to a push from Senate Republicans, it could involve up to $1 billion in public funds.

Kimmel highlighted the apparent contradiction between earlier promises and the latest developments, joking that after insisting he and his allies would cover the cost, President Trump now wants taxpayers to step in. The host pointed to confusion even within Washington, with differing accounts over whether the proposed federal funding would go toward security features or the ballroom itself.

From there, Kimmel leaned into the absurdity of the price tag. “A billion dollars for a ballroom,” he quipped, before delivering the punchline: “What can you say? The man loves to dance.” Thankfully, he did not subject the Jimmy Kimmel Live! audience to any footage of the president moving and grooving to "YMCA" or any of his other favorite dance numbers.

The comedian also mocked what he described as lukewarm (at best) public support for the project, citing low approval and suggesting enthusiasm could dip even further once taxpayers realize they may be footing the bill.

As is typical for Kimmel, the segment didn’t stop there. He closed the bit with some R-rated jokes aimed at President Trump’s relationship with fellow Republicans, turning the ballroom discussion into a broader bit about the president's grip on the Republican Party

"But I don't get it," Kimmel said. "Why does he need a room to hold balls? He's already holding a lot of balls. He's holding JD Vance's balls. He's got Lindsey Graham's balls. holding the balls of almost every Republican in Congress."

The line earned a thunderous applause from the studio audience, which had already expressed its disapproval of the ballroom payment plan. That kind of reaction makes the ballroom proposal an easy target for late-night hosts. But Kimmel's monologue made sure that the blame doesn't rest exclusively with President Trump.

The late-night comedian reminded everyone that the Republican Party continues to enable some of President Trump's least-popular decisions. So while there appears to be some divide on the right over the president's response to Kimmel's comedy, it looks like the GOP is falling in line behind its leader when it comes to taxpayer-funded ballrooms.

Of course, no amount of late-night jokes or poor approval ratings will derail the project. As Jimmy Kimmel so eloquently put it, President Trump has a firm grasp on his party. And as long as that is still the case, the ballroom will be built.
