Jimmy Kimmel gave Conan O'Brien very specific advice about hosting the Oscars

Conan O'Brien is just days away from hosting the 2025 Academy Awards, but he's been preparing for months. Part of that prepation included meeting with Jimmy Kimmel to get some advice.

KImmel has hosted the Oscars four times, including the two previous ceremonies. So he knows better than anyone what goes into making sure the night runs smoothly and the jokes set the right tone.

On Tuesday night, Conan O'Brien made his Jimmy Kimmel Live! debut. The two late-night TV stars shared the unusual advice Kimmel gave O'Brien during a meal the two shared along with Kimmel's wife, Molly McNearney.

"I would not give you tips on jokes or any of that stuff, I would never do that," Kimmel said, acknowledging that O'Brien doesn't need any help in that department. "But I did have some kind of like old man tips like try to sit down during the show."

It was an unexpected slice of advice and likely something no one watching at home would think about. But clearly Kimmel learned at some point that taking a load off makes hosting the Oscars that much easier.

"Jimmy is obsessed with sitting down as much as possible," O'Brien joked. "And his tips kept going back to 'try and sit down. If you can do the joke sitting down, do them sitting down.""

O'Brien went on to admit the tips from Molly McNearney were much more helpful than those from Kimmel. The late-night legend said McNearney had very specific notes to share that were extremely helpful. Meanwhile, O'Brien noticed Kimmel to be much more concerned about ordering appetizers and eating shrimp.

Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien admit they don't watch all the Oscars movies

Jimmy Kimmel also put Conan O'Brien on the spot when he asked if the Oscars host had watched all the nominated movies. O'Brien found himself in a tough situation, claiming he already told People Magazine that he'd seen all the movies.

But Kimmel let him off the hook by admitting he never watched every movie in the years he hosted the Academy Awards. For Kimmel, it could become a chore to sit down and watch a movie he'd otherwise have no interest in seeing.

O'Brien gave enough of hints to suggest he hasn't quite seen everything yet, despite the Oscars being just days away. But the comedian also admitted he likes to leave things until the last minute, so it sounds as if he's going to use every bit of time he has to prepare.
