Freedom of speech is essential, and while that doesn’t mean freedom from consequences, the government should not be stepping in to silence people just because they disagree with something the government is doing. During Christmas Day 2025, Jimmy Kimmel gave the Alternative Christmas Message, and as we were warned, it included a message about how 2025 has been a “really great year” for fascism. That is to say that the tyranny of shutting people down for people speaking out against the government has been running rampant.
However, things are starting to change. Kimmel even pointed out that people who didn’t even like him stood up for him when he was taken off the air. It shows that people want the freedom of speech protected, and he did say that by being able to come back on the air, it meant that freedom of speech won over Donald Trump. We have to remember that this Alternative Christmas Message is aimed at the British people. It airs on a British network, and the focus has to be on what the British people can do. Kimmel’s request is for the British people not to give up on America.
There is a lot of negativity in the world right now. To be honest, the Brits have a lot to deal with on their own soil, especially with the rising cost of living, but it’s not helping with some of the antics happening in the United States. Kimmel doesn’t want all American people to be painted with the same brush as some of the more vocal, because of one man in power.
Jimmel asks for just three more years. There is hope that there will be a change then. That would take us to the next election, which will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
