Jimmy Fallon criticized by fans for talking over this superstar actress
Jimmy Fallon has not had the smoothest tenure on The Tonight Show. Granted, he didn't gift the hosting gig to another comedian and then snatch it back (*cough* Jay Leno), but he has drawn a steady stream of criticism since taking over in 2014.
One of the most common knocks against Fallon are his interviewing skills. Or rather, his lack thereof. The late night host has been repeatedly called out for derailing the anecdotes of his guests, or talking over them outright. The latter was on display during the November 8 episode of The Tonight Show.
Fans believed Jimmy Fallon hijacked the interview
Jimmy Fallon welcomed on actress Rebecca Ferguson to discuss her Apple series Silo, but the interview never really gained momentum due to the fact that Fallon repeatedly cut Ferguson off. He brought up Ferguson's former Mission: Impossible co-star, Tom Cruise, and proceeded to gush about the actor without giving Ferguson much in the way of attention.
Fallon and Ferguson praised Cruise for his impressive stunt work, but there were several times during the interview when Ferguson's attempt to weigh in on Cruise's talent was cut short by Fallon. This led to a torrent of criticisms on various social media platforms in which the interview was posted.
Several YouTube commenters took Fallon to task for not focusing on Ferguson's show, and instead shifting the focus to Tom Cruise and a franchise that Ferguson is no longer part of. Furthermore, they criticized Fallon's tendency to talk over the actress instead of giving her an opportunity to lead the conversation.
Fallon has been criticized for his interview skills before
This is not the first time Fallon has been accused of steamrolling his guests. He recently had social media phenomenons, Big Justice, AJ and the Rizzler (absolutely absurd list of names to type out in relation to a talk show), and many pointed out the ways in which Fallon rushed through the interview. Some even pointed out that he ignored a question from the Rizzler, despite the fact that they were sitting right next to one another.
Of course, the only way to determine if Fallon dropped the ball with the Rebecca Ferguson interview is to watch it for yourself. Do you think he did a bad job chatting up the Golden Globe nominee, or has the internet blown things out of proportion?
