Saturday Night Live and Nate Bargatze continue to prove to be a winning combination that mutually benefits both sides. So much so that the comedian landed a starring role in a Super Bowl commercial thanks to his SNL monologue.
Bargatze got the rare honor of hosting Saturday Night Live in back-to-back seasons when he made his debut in season 49 and followed up with another hosting gig this season. The stand-up comedian is clearly in good with SNl boss Lorne Michaels, who produced Bargatze's holiday special in December.
Now, Bargatze is suiting up for Super Bowl LIX. DoorDash dropped a teaser for its 2025 Super Bowl ad featuring the popular comedian.
According to Bargatze, his bit on being a devoted DoorDash customer during his SNL monologue helped get him the new job.
"Telling the story about DoorDash on SNL, that was my whole goal, was to, I was basically going on SNL to audition for DoorDash," Bargatze told People. "It really worked out."
He went on to give credit to Michaels and Saturday Night Live for helping his career reach new heights. The star of the viral "Washington's Dream" sketches knows how influential a successful SNL appearance can be.
"SNL's really done a lot of stuff for me. I owe a lot of this to SNL, and Lorne," he said. "And Lorne is someone that does see that. If you look at his history of SNL, it's all about finding the next group and then sending the, the other group moves out and the new group comes in. Someone, a point in my career, to be 20 years in and for it to have that big of an impact on someone that's been in the business for 20 years is, just shows you that they're always looking."
As if being on Saturday Night Live wasn't a big enough stage, now Bargatze is bringing his talents to the Super Bowl. It's his first foray into commercials, but likely won't be his last. Expect to see more of Bargatze on your screen, whether its commercials, movies, or (hopefully) another turn hosting Saturdy Night Live.
