How many times has Michael Keaton hosted SNL?
Michael Keaton is having a moment. The actor already had an acting renaissance in the 2010s, thanks to starring roles in back-to-back Best Picture winners Birdman (2014) and Spotlight (2015). He's now gotten a third wind thanks to the success of the blockbuster sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Keaton is hilarious as ever in the title role, dishing out jokes at a dizzying speed and proving that he's only getting better with age. The actor has also been tapped to host Saturday Night Live on October 19, which invariably begs the question: has he hosted before? When was the last time Keaton was on the SNL stage?
Keaton has hosted Saturday Night Live three times
Well, for starters, Michael Keaton has hosted SNL before. He's actually hosted the show three times, though you'd be forgiven for forgetting, given how long ago some of his episodes were. The actor first hosted in 1982, when he was fresh off the success of his breakout film Night Shift.
Saturday Night Live was not in the best place in 1982, and would be a much smoother operation by the time Keaton returned to host in 1992. The actor had already become a household name thanks to the success of Beetlejuice (1988) and the first two Batman films.
The Oscar nominee's last appearance was in 2015
Keaton's career went through a lull in the 2000s, but he bounced back magnificently with the aforementioned Best Picture winners. He returned to host Saturday Night Live a third time in 2015, marking a sizable 13 year gap in between gigs. Now, after nine additional years, Keaton is back. He's taking the stage for a fourth time.
The promo for Keaton's upcoming episode has dropped, and it sees him hilariously attempt to hype himself up while the narrator dishes out incorrect information about his past. The promo ends with him ripping his pants off to showcase how ready he is, only to realize he forgot to put underwear on.
SNL fans will be in for a treat come October 19, provided Keaton doesn't have anymore wardrobe malfunctions.
