When it comes to the late night schedules, The Daily Show is often the one that’s hardest to follow. The lineup usually isn’t announced until later into the day on Monday, and it was even later on Monday, Jan. 19 due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Daily Show took Monday, Jan. 19 off, which meant no Jon Stewart this week. However, we have Josh Johnson all week, who is always a co-host to look forward to. He made his debut back in the 2025 season and quickly made it clear that viewers loved to see him. So, we’re looking forward to the rest of this week.
Who joins Josh Johnson on The Daily Show tonight?
On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Johnson will be joined by Simu Liu, who is there to talk about Oh. Mary! on Broadway and The Copenhagen Test, which dropped on Peacock back in December 2025. This isn’t his first stint on the show, though.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Ronny Chieng introduced Lucy Liu on to the stage, but the wrong Liu ran out at first. Simu eve sat down to do an interview, but Chieng was having none of it. He wanted to speak with Lucy, so he sent Simu off the stage.
It was just a tease of what was to come, and maybe there’s a chance that Lucy will end up crashing Simu’s interview to get her own back. It was her first time on the series earlier this year, but we hope to see her again.
The Daily Show loves its gags
While having longer interviews with stars compared to the likes of The Late Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! is a great part of The Daily Show, it’s also the simple comedy. The show doesn’t always take political jabs — although it does have fun with that. Sometimes, the hosts simply have fun with the actors themselves, and that was the case just recently, also while Chieng hosted.
Chieng was set to interview Park Chan-wook about his filmmaking experience, and it meant a translator was needed. Chieng was fully prepared with his own, Ken Jeong. It turned out that Jeong doesn’t speak a word of Korean, which led to a fun gag on the set, until Chieng kicked him off the stage and got to business with the real interview.
Johnson doesn’t tend to have the type of comedic style, and he tends to get more down to business straight away. This could mean no gag with Lucy Liu on The Daily Show tonight, but never say “never.”
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central.
