Gavin Newsom called out the GOP in a recent tweet following Jimmy Kimmel Live! being pulled before Wednesday night's episode.
After President Donald Trump celebrated Kimmel's suspension, Newsom took to Twitter to make his own statement and to point out that the party "does not believe in free speech." Newsom even states that the party controlling the federal government is "censoring you in real time."
Here's his full message:
"Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous. The @GOP does not believe in free speech. They are censoring you in real time."
Buying and controlling media platforms.

Firing commentators.
Canceling shows.
These aren’t coincidences.
It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous.
The @GOP does not believe in free speech.
They are censoring you in real time.
In recent weeks, Newsom's team has mocked President Trump's social media posts with their own all-caps rants, but this tweet definitely strikes a different tone than some of Newsom's other messages.
For those unaware of the situation, ABC indefinitely shelved Jimmy Kimmel Live! following the FCC issuing a warning against Kimmel for his comments following the death of Charlie Kirk last week.
In an episode of the show, Kimmel said, "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
It's unclear if there was more to the decision or what exactly happened behind the scenes, but it's definitely a shocking decision. I don't remember anything like this happening in my lifetime. According to NBC News, Nexstar Media Group, which is in the middle of merger negotiations, revealed the show would "preempted" prior to Disney's announcement.
What happens from here, we don't know. Newsom obviously has an interest in what is happening with shows being pulled from the air in this fashion. So much of the TV and film industry's business happens in California.
According to reports, Kimmel has not been fired, but it's hard to see how anyone comes back from this. If Kimmel isn't allowed to comment on world events, what's the point of the show? This feels like it's the beginning of a very long process, but we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Stay tuned for more news about Jimmy Kimmy Live! I have a feeling there's going to be a lot more talk about the government's role in this decision in the weeks to come, with more people speaking out and sharing their thoughts when more details come to light.
