Over the course of the last few years, late night hosts have hosted various awards. Just recently, former Daily Show host Trevor Noah took on the Grammys hosting duties once more, and we’ve seen Jimmy Kimmel host the Oscars in the past.
In fact, Kimmel hosted the 2024 Oscars, which was a viewership record-breaking event. It’s clear that people are tuning in, so what are the chances of him hosting again? Well, part of this is the Oscars asking him to do it, but another part is Kimmel wanting to and having the availability to do it.
Jimmy Kimmel could host again under the right circumstances
This is a case of never saying “never.” There is a chance that Kimmel could host again, and there is one thing that would have him offering up his time to do it.
According to Entertainment Weekly, he said that he will host the show if Melania is nominated for an Oscar. He wouldn’t even need to be asked. In fact, he will insist on hosting.
This is the self-titled documentary of Melania Trump, which has just been released in theaters. The movie isn’t eligible for the 2026 awards, but it would be eligible for the 2027 awards, which would be the one Kimmel would want to host.

Could Melania land an Oscar nomination?
There has been a lot of hype for the documentary from Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany. However, TMZ is on the side of it not being nominated. This jury is out at this point, but by being released in theaters, it would be eligible for a nomination.
If it does land a nomination, you just know who will be there to read out the names. After all, Kimmel has already said the documentary is “the biggest opening for a non-musical vanity project/brazen corporate bribe in the last 10 years.”
Who will host the 2026 Academy Awards?
In 2026, Conan O’Brien is back to host. He took over hosting duties in 2025 after Kimmel stepped away, and we’ll get to see him once more. The nominations are already out, but we’ll have to wait until Sunday, March 15 for the event.
The 2027 hosting duties are still open, and it’s all going to depend on the nominations. Of course, it’s also up to the Academy Awards and ABC, who will air the event. If Kimmel hosted, it would certainly have Donald Trump talking, and maybe that could lead to more people tuning in!
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
