The Late Show with Stephen Colbert canceled all shows for the week beginning November 27. The news came following Stephen Colbert’s announcement of a medical emergency.

In a message shared via Instagram, Colbert revealed that he is recovering from a ruptured appendix. The late-night TV host shared a message in typical Colbert fashion.

“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”

While The Late Show with Stephen Colbert already planned to be off the air on Monday, it will now extend that hiatus through the end of the week. The week’s guest lineup was slated to include appearances by Jennifer Garner, Patrick Stewart, and Jon Batiste among others.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert canceled for the second time in recent weeks due to Colbert’s health

Unfortunately, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fans are used to these kinds of announcements. It wasn’t that long ago that Colbert’s health forced The Late Show off the air.

Colbert tested positive for COVID-19 in October, not long after the show returned from the writers’ strike. The comedian managed to host one episode of The Late Show from home before canceling the rest of the week’s programming to recover.

Neither CBS nor Colbert have indicated when The Late Show will be back to its regular schedule. It’s likely that Colbert will see where he is in his recovery by the time he’s due on the air for the December 4 show.
