Stephen Colbert’s monologue last night jumped right into the scandal engulfing Representative George Santos. The Late Show host called the story appealing to anyone who is a fan of “stupidity” and “corruption.”

A House ethics report released on Thursday contained some damning accusations against Representative Santos. The report found Santos used his campaign for personal profit and deemed the New York Republican “beneath the dignity of the office” and someone who has “brought severe discredit upon the House.”

“That is not easy to do,” Colbert joked. After all, this came just a day after Colbert’s monologue mocked Republicans in Congress looking to start fights wherever they could.

The report found Santos used campaign funds for luxury goods, vacations, and purchases at OnlyFans, among other things. Colbert mocked Santos after reading the congressman also spent donor money on Botox.

Stephen Colbert calls for George Santos’ expulsion from Congress

Stephen Colbert wasn’t completely satisfied by the House ethics report. There was no recommendation to expel George Santos, citing the need for a “much longer process.”

But Colbert is all in favor of taking a little more time if it can guarantee Santos will get booted. “It’s like a surgeon saying ‘Mrs. Thompson, we could remove your burst appendix, but that could take hours,'” Colbert added.

Santos’ reaction ahead of the report’s release also concerned Colbert. A clip of the Republican saying he had “no premeditated feelings” about the report prompted Colbert to sarcastically call it “exactly what a sociopath wouldn’t say.”

Once the report went public, Santos declared he would not seek re-election. Colbert’s monologue will take a hit as the host admitted he won’t have “endless content” with Santos gone. Just last week, Colbert thanked Republicans for not expelling Santos.

The good news for Colbert is that Congress, and the GOP especially, continues to turn out new characters worthy of late-night TV’s attention. There’s a good chance there’s a new George Santos on the way.
