The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fans waited out the writers’ strike for months. Now that things are settled, what should Colbert’s audience expect to see tonight on CBS?

The Writers Guild of America finally received an acceptable offer, sending thousands of Hollywood writers back to work. It also ended late-night TV’s hiatus and gave the programs time to prepare for their return.

So after five months, the wait is finally over. There will be a brand new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Colbert spent the hiatus supporting the WGA and his writing staff. Now, he’ll get to show off their talents by bringing The Late Show back to the air.

What to expect from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight

There hasn’t been a more anticipated Stephen Colbert monologue in a while. Not only is he returning after months off the air, but he comes back on the same day former president Donald Trump was in court in New York City.

It will be interesting to see if Colbert chooses to look back at the time he missed and share some thoughts. After all, he missed multiple indictments against Trump, the Republican debates, and a few gaffes from President Joe Biden.

The Late Show and other late-night TV shows returning with new episodes still have to work around the Screen Actors Guild strike. SAG members have restrictions in place about appearing on camera or promoting projects. So it’s unsurprising that Colbert didn’t book any actors tonight.

The first guest will be astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. He and Colbert always deliver an interesting interview. Look for Colbert to get Tyson’s views on the increased interest in UFOs and aliens on top of their usual scientific discussion.

For the musical guest, The Late Show will keep things in house. Band leader Lois Cato will step in and perform for the audience.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs tonight at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
