Real Time with Bill Maher had a false start or two during the writers’ strike. But now that the WGA has a new deal, what should late-night TV fans expect to see tonight on HBO?

Bill Maher initially announced plans to get Real Time back on the air prior to the WGA getting a new deal. The comedian and host faced backlash for attempting to put on a show without a writing staff. However, he reversed course when the guild went back to the negotiating time. It all worked out as the WGA received an acceptable offer.

The good news continues for Real Time with Bill Maher fans, too. There will be a brand new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight.

Expect Maher to start the show by acknowledging the elephant in the room. He should share some initial thoughts on the strike, Real Time‘s hiatus, and maybe even his comments that Hollywood writers aren’t owed a living.

Who’s on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight?

Unsurprisingly, Real Time with Bill Maher wants to make a splash in its first night back. The show will no doubt achieve that goal based on the guest lineup for tonight’s episode.

First up, Bill Maher goes one-on-one with Ron DeSantis. It will be the Florida governor and presidential hopeful’s first stop to Real Time. And while Maher and DeSantis share similar thoughts on “woke” culture and pandemic restrictions, it will be impossible for DeSantis to win over Maher or the crowd as a candidate.

Then, it will be time for the panel. Neuroscientist, philosopher, and bestselling author Sam Harris joins Maher. He can also be heard as the host of his podcast Making Sense.

Mary Katharine Ham also stops by the panel. She co-hosts the podcast Getting Hammered and wrote the book End of Discussion: How The Left’s Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters and Makes America Less Free (and Fun).

Real Time with Bill Maher airs tonight, September 29, at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
