Jeopardy! returned on Thursday with another brand-new episode. Do we have a new winner or did the champion’s streak continue?

Lately, it hasn’t been easy for returning champions to get much of a streak going. The competition has been strong over the final few episodes of season 39.

Who is the current Jeopardy! champion?

Lucas Partridge, a school counselor from Las Vegas, Nevada, entered Thursday’s game as the current Jeopardy! champion. His one-day total sat at $20,100.

His competition tonight included Zach Razavi, a palliative physician from St. Paul, Minnesota, and Alicia Schaffer, a physician from Indianapolis, Indiana.

The game stayed relatively close during the “Jeopardy!” round. Lucas held onto a lead with $5,200, followed by Alicia with $2,400 and Zach with $1,200.

Alicia went one-for-two on “Daily Double” questions in “Double Jeopardy!” play. However, Lucas remained in first with $13,600. Alicia stood in second with $11,000 while Zach never got rolling with $2,000.

All three players correctly answered the “Final Jeopardy!” clue. Lucas’ strong wager was enough to give him the victory and make him a two-day Jeopardy! champion.

What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! clue?

It had been a few games since all three players came up with the correct response on the final clue. Here is tonight’s clue in the category “Fighting Forces”:

Formed in 1831 to help with the conquest of Algeria, its ranks have included German, Turks & Chinese
