Jeopardy! season 39 is nearing its end, but there are still more games to be played. So who came out on top tonight?

We’re only a few weeks until the end of the Jeopardy! season. The fate of season 40 remains in jeopardy (pun intended) thanks to the ongoing writers’ strike.

Who is the current Jeopardy! champion?

David Bederman, an attorney from Los Angeles, California, entered Wednesday night’s game as the returning Jeopardy! champion. He held a one-day total of $28,401 after winning last night.

His competition tonight included Liz Cotrufello, an elementary school teacher from Broomall, Pennsylvania, and Sean Weatherston, a physical therapist from Nampa, Idaho.

Bederman got off to an impressive start in the “Jeopardy!” round, answering 12 out of 13 clues correctly. He finished the round with $6,600, giving him a healthy lead over Sean Weatherston’s $2,200 and Liz Cotrufello’s $200.

Cotrufello got 18 clues in “Double Jeopardy!” to close the gap. However, Bederman still had the lead enterting “Final Jeopardy!.” He had $15,00 to Cotrufello’s $12,200. Weatherston wasn’t completely out of it with $7,000.

Two out of three players correctly answered “Final Jeopardy!,” included Bederman. His strong wager gave him the victory and a two-day total of $52,802. He’ll return tomorrow as the current Jeopardy! champion.

What was tonight’s Final Jeopardy! clue?

“Final Jeopardy!” tonight appealed to both art fans and history buffs. Here is the clue in the category “Famous Paintings”:

A German guidebook to a 1937 World’s Fair dismissed it as a “hodgepodge of body parts that any four-year-old could have painted”

Answer: What is Guernica?

The correct response was Pablo Picasso’s classic “Guernica.” Bederman answered correctly and added $9,401 to his total. Sean Weatherston also got it right, giving him another $3,000. Unfortunately, Liz Cotrufello wrote down “Woman Descending,” ending her chance at a comeback victory.
