It’s Monday, and that means a brand new episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. So who is the latest celebrity to join Conan O’Brien‘s podcast?

The July 17, 2023 episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend welcomes comedian, actor, and writer Patton Oswalt. It marks a return appearance for Oswalt, who previously joined the podcast back on April 14, 2019, and again on January 23, 2022, alongside his wife, actress Meredith Salenger.

How does Patton Oswalt feel about being Conan O’Brien’s friend? The comedian answered “radiant” this time. Fans can add that to the list of his previous responses, which include “anxious” and “100% not embarrassed.”

Oswalt and O’Brien, alongside Sona Movsesian and Matt Gourley, discuss a number of entertaining topics during the episode. They touch on the advancement of artificial intelligence, Oswalt’s comic book series Minor Threats, and the comedian’s early appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Patton Oswalt shares his appreciation for Slip Nutz on Conan O’Brien’s podcast

Speaking of the Late Night with Conan O’Brien days, longtime fans were treated to a chat about the classic recurring sketch “Slipnutz.”

Oswalt and O’Brien started off the show reminiscing about the early 2000s bands that would play on Late Night. Among them was Slipknot, who O’Brien credited with being incredibly polite and gracious despite their on-stage theatrics.

The comedian remembered Slipknot’s first performance because it was also the debut of Slipnutz, comprised of Late Night writers/performers Brian Stack, Andy Blitz, and Jon Glaser.

In typical Late Night with Conan O’Brien fashion, the sketch really only had one joke taken to the extreme. The three members of Slipnutz would slip on peanuts and perform a vaudevillian-style song to go with it.

Clearly, it made an impression on a young Patton Oswalt. It was also a hit with fans as it became a favorite sketch from Conan and company.
