Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, July 14?
By Matt Moore
Friday night usually means that late-night fans tune in to Real Time with Bill Maher. However, things have been anything but usual over the past few months.
Late-night TV went dark at the start of May when the Writers Guild of America went on strike, demanding better wages in the era of streaming content. Since then, shows like Real Time with Bill Maher haven’t aired any new episodes.
Unfortunately, the WGA strike remains in effect today. That means there will not be a new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight.
Instead, HBO will air the documentary Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York at 10:00 p.m. ET, during Real Time with Bill Maher‘s typical timeslot.
What has Bill Maher been doing during the strike?
Every late-night TV host has approached the writers’ strike differently. Some, like Seth Meyers and John Oliver, have announced stand-up comedy dates across the country. Others, such as Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon, appear to be making the most of the downtime and spending the hiatus with family.
For Bill Maher, he’s been spending a good amount of his time hosting his popular Club Random podcast. The podcast sees Maher sit down with famous actors, comedians, and more to usually get high and/or drunk as they discuss media, politics, and whatever else comes up in conversation.
Recent episodes have featured Bill Maher speaking with Ice Cub, The Office star Rainn Wilson, Kathy Griffin, Jon Hamm, and Bill Corgan.
There’s no sign that the WGA strike will end anytime soon. So fans will continue to wait for new episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher.
