Conan O’Brien provided fans with an update on his upcoming Max show, Conan O’Brien Must Go. The travel special will be the comedian’s return to television following the end of his late-night TV career.

Conan O’Brien Must Go got a sneak peek last month. Fans were treated to scenes of O’Brient globetrotting and interacting with locals, similar to his famous “Conan Without Borders” specials.

So when does Conan O’Brien Must Go start streaming on Max? Unfortunately, there still isn’t a specific date set in stone. That’s partly because O’Brien is waiting for the Writers Guild of America to reach a new agreement and end its support.

During a recent Q&A session promoting his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, the comedian reiterated his support for the entertainment industry’s writers. O’Brien revealed that once the writers’ strike is over, then they’ll move forward with a launch date for Conan O’Brien Must Go.

“I started off as a TV writer, so I’m backing [the WGA] a thousand percent. Until they get what they want, the show will sort of stay in limbo. And whenever that gets resolved, I hope to finish it up.”

What will Conan O’Brien Must Go be about?

In addition to giving fans an update on when the show will hit Max, Conan O’Brien also provided some more details on the premise. Conan O’Brien Must Go sounds like it will be a heightened version of “Conan Without Borders” that combines more elements of his legendary remote segments.

Where “Conan Without Borders” saw the comedian attempting to learn more about a country’s culture through popular tourism destinations or connecting with local governments, the Max series will put O’Brien in the middle of an international fan’s life.

O’Brien mentioned that he often chats with fans during the week. Such conversations have been incorporated into his podcast or made their way online. So the former late-night host decided to take things one step further.

“The idea was … many of these conversations end with ‘Conan, if you’re ever in Nigeria, stop on by.’ And they say it kind of like a joke. So what we decided to do … is I show up at their door and I get involved in their life.”

The comedian went on to reveal that fans will see him attempting to solve a problem or help the fan achieve something. O’Brien is always at his best in remote segments. Seeing him surprise fans around the world should only add to the excitement.
