Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, June 10?
By Matt Moore
It’s finally Saturday, and what a week it has been! Comedy and late-night TV fans are know that Saturday Night Live would have no shortage of material for an episode tonight. So what should they expect to see on NBC?
The big news of the week was another indictment of former President Donald Trump. Late-night TV has already had plenty of fun regarding Trump storing classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Now, comedians have even more material to work with.
Unfortunately, we won’t get SNL’s take on the indictment. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Why isn’t SNL new tonight? There are two reasons.
One, we’re into June now. A typical Saturday Night Live season wraps up by the middle of May. Season 1 was the only time episodes aired in June, with the finale coming in July 1976. Since then, no season has aired later than May 34.
Two, the Writers Guild of America strike is still going. So even if the SNL season was still going, it wouldn’t be airing a new episode without writers. SNL joined other late-night shows by going dark at the start of May when writers went on strike.
Will there be any Saturday Night Live reruns tonight?
While Saturday Night Live was in season, NBC would typically air two vintage or repeat episodes on Saturdays when the show was off.
Tonight, only one episode will be on the air. At 11:30 p.m. ET, fans can rewatch the season 48 premiere that was hosted by Miles Teller. The musical guest was Kendrick Lamar.
There will not be a vintage Saturday Night Live episode at 10:00 p.m. Instead, NBC will air an episode of its gameshow Password.
