Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, June 3?
By Matt Moore
Saturday Night Live‘s new episodes typically run out before the summer officially begins. So what should SNL fans expect to see tonight on NBC?
Rarely does Saturday Night Live extend its season into June. A typical year for SNL ends in mid or late May. However, things have been somewhat atypical around Studio 8H over the past few years.
Still, things haven’t changed that much in 2023. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Instead, NBC will reair the April 15 episode. Interested fans can tune in to see Ana De Armas host (and make SNL history) alongside musical guest Karol G.
It’s also the last new episode Saturday Night Live aired for season 48. The Writers Guild of America strike prevented SNL from airing its final few episodes of the year. Fans were denied the chance to see hosts Pete Davidson, Kieran Culkin, and Jennifer Coolidge.
Strike or no strike, there wouldn’t have been a new episode tonight. Saturday Night Live‘s schedule usually wraps up by the middle of May, giving the cast and crew a much-needed break before things ramp up again in the fall.
When will Saturday Night Live return?
Saturday Night Live season 48 was a season of change. The year started off without Pete Davidson, Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Mellisa Villasenor, Alex Moffat, Chris Redd, and Aristotle Athari. Then, Cecily Strong left midseason.
Whether or not other cast members planned on walking away after this season remains to be seen. Colin Jost and Michael Che have been rumored to be looking toward the exit after stepping down from their roles as head writers prior to this season. But hopefully, the abrupt end to season 48 will convince them to return for a proper goodbye. That, and the looming presidential election means that SNL needs their talents at the “Weekend Update” desk.
So when will Saturday Night Live return with new episodes? A definitive schedule for season 49 hasn’t been released yet. But based on history, we can expect SNL to be back in late September or early October.
