Is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert new tonight, May 15?
By Matt Moore
It’s Monday night, and late-night TV fans are looking for an update on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week. Here’s what to expect tonight on CBS.
By now, the Writers Guild of America strike has been well-documented. Writers across the entertainment industry are picketing for fair wages and residuals. For late-night TV, that means we’ve gone weeks without a new episode.
And that streak won’t come to an end on Monday night. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The WGA remains on strike and late-night remains dark.
So instead, CBS will reair the March 1 episode during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert‘s regular timeslot. Interested viewers can tune in to revisit appearances by Michelle Yeoh and Riley Keough.
The Late Show and other late-night TV shows remain in reruns
Stephen Colbert is by no means the exception when it comes to shuttering his late-night TV show during the writers’ strike. Every other show has been on hiatus since the strike began.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver all halted production when WGA writers went on strike.
There is no clear indication of when the WGA strike will end. All we can do is look back at how things played out during the 2007-2008 strike. It took several months for a new deal to be reached and for late-night TV to return to normal.
