Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, May 6, 2023?

Saturday Night Live fans know that when the calendar flips to May, the end is near. SNL typically wraps up around this time every year. So what should SNL audiences expect to see tonight on NBC?
SNL last aired a new episode back on April 15. Ghosted star Ana de Armas made her debut as host, and the show seemed ready to hit the final stretch with some momentum.
Unfortunately, things quickly derailed. There will not be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight.
Instead, NBC will reair the March 11 episode. Fans can see Wednesday and Scream star Jenna Ortega host, while The 1975 served as musical guest.
Why is there not a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight?
Saturday Night Live planned to air a new episode tonight. Former cast member Pete Davidson was set to return to host, promoting his new Peacock comedy Bupkis.
However, everything changed when the Writers Guild of America went on strike. The writers for late-night TV, dramas, and more across entertainment are striking for better wages.
So with no writing staff, SNL will join other shows and go dark for the foreseeable future. It’s unlikely the WGA will reach a new deal before SNL’s schedule was set to run out for season 48.
That means we’ve probably seen the last of Saturday Night Live season. It’s another unusual season for the show, coming off multiple pandemic years. We’ll have to wait to see if any cast members will head for the exits, too.
