It’s an unpredictable time in late-night TV right now. So what should The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fans expect to see tonight on CBS?

Stephen Colbert was off the air on Tuesday night. The Late Show went dark following the Writers Guild of America strike. Writers seeking better pay are in a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The dispute didn’t get solved overnight, so that should give fans an idea of what to expect. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Instead, CBS will reair the April 20 episode. Interested viewers can revisit Colbert welcoming Rachel Weisz and Danny Trejo to the show.

When will The Late Show with Stephen Colbert return?

There is no definitive date for when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will return to CBS with brand-new episodes. The late-night TV show can’t do much without its writers.

During past writers’ strikes, some shows have attempted to go on the air without the backing of union writers. That doesn’t sound like the best idea for CBS, The Late Show, or fans.

Given Stephen Colbert’s background as a writer, it’s also unlikely that he’ll want to do anything to upset his staff. Expect him to stand back and wait for the WGA to reach an agreement that satisfies everyone.
